Day 1 of our 2009 harvest has begun....September 21, 2009! May it be a fruitful harvest.

Our new 100% Maui Coffee is Here!

Our new 100% Maui coffee is now available to the public, and we're excited! After countless hours of roasting and cupping we think we've create a new coffee that perfectly fills out our 100% Hawaiian origin line up. We medium roast the beans and find that they produce a cup that is bright and smooth - unique and different from both our 100% Moloka'i coffees, and our 100% Kona coffee. Give it a try and let us know what you think.

And what's in the name? Pōhaku O Kā'anapali. Many of you have probably vacationed in Maui and seen the above outcrop of rocks on Ka'anapali Beach. There is a story behind those "cliffs". The name and the legend bely our approach to this coffee. You can read the full legend here.

First a tropical storm, now a fire.

In case you weren't following the news, there was a brush fire on Moloka'i last weekend that spread to 8,000 acres below our plantation on the slopes above Kaunakakai. It is now over 80% contained and our plantation is safe.

How many more bullets will we have to dodge this growing season?! We just want to grow quality coffee in peace...

Dodging a Bullet - Tropical Storm Felicia

Dodging a Bullet...

As many of you may have followed in the news, Hurricane Felicia was targeting the islands in a big way earlier in the week. High winds and torrential rains were the LAST thing we needed as our coffee crop continues to mature.

Thankfully, "Hurricane Felicia" became "Tropical Storm Felicia" and by the time it hit Kualapu'u it had weakened considerably. Three inches of rain - much needed rain - were all that we got out of it so a potential curse became a blessing. The sun came out and our beans were intact.
